چکیده
Abstract Introduction Working at night leads to shortened and disturbed daytime sleep. Night workers usually adopt one of several sleep patterns between consecutive nights: sleeping right after work (morning sleep), delaying the afternoon (afternoon or dividing into two more episodes (split sleep). However, few studies have examined pattern duration nights in real-world workers. The objective this study was examine individual differences when working shifts. Methods (n=241, 43.0±16.5y, 67.2% female) from various occupations who reported completed an online survey. survey included questions on socio-demographics nap schedules. Sleep vs. split) total time (sleep+naps) were derived responses. Cross-tabulations ANOVA conducted. Results On average, a 5.37±2.69 hours (range 0-14.25 hours). 65.1% morning sleep, 10% 24.9% split Split sleepers (6.78±2.13 hours) longer than (4.86±2.75 (5.11±2.37 sleepers. Younger age (< 50y), single marital status, shorter shift tenure (≤10 years), ≤3 shifts, having ill disabled dependents associated with greater prevalence sleep; older (≥50y), married separated/widowed, >10 years tenure, ≥4 no Having childcare responsibility children. Associations between Rotating Night Shifts, Sleep Duration, and Telomere Length in Women
BACKGROUND Telomere length has been proposed as a marker of aging. However, our knowledge of lifestyle risk factors determining telomere length is limited. METHODS We evaluated the associations between years of rotating night shifts, self-reported sleep duration, and telomere length in 4,117 female participants from the Nurses' Health Study. Telomere length in peripheral blood leukocytes was ...
متن کامل[Gender and night work: sleep, daily life and the experiences of night shift workers].
This paper deals with the impact of night work from a gender perspective, through a field study at a factory employing men and women on the night shift. It is based on data for hours of sleep over the course of several weeks, socio-demographic data, and job information, using a semi-structured interview. The methodology includes chronobiological aspects of sleep (mainly quantitative data) and w...
متن کاملNight shifts, sleep deprivation, and attention performance in medical students
OBJECTIVE To determine attention performance of medical students after sleep deprivation due to night shift work. METHODS Prospective cohort design. All seventh, eighth and ninth semester students were invited to participate (n= 209). The effectiveness and concentration indices (d2 Test for attention, dependent variable) from 180 students at 3 evaluations during the semester were compared. Ei...
متن کاملCharacterizing recovery of sleep after four successive night shifts.
The purpose of this study was to characterize the recovery pattern of sleep following simulated, four successive night shifts in ten healthy men (22.9 + or - 3.2 yr). Poor sleep was defined as sleep efficiency of 80% or lower as determined actigraphically. The results showed that four (rapid, slow, pseudo, and incomplete) patterns of sleep recovery were observed over three recovery sleep period...
